Mica Redress Scheme for Donegal households “within weeks”
Donegal Sinn Féin Senator Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has cautiously welcomed confirmation from the Housing Minister, Eoghan Murphy that a redress scheme for the thousands of Donegal households affected by mica defective blocks will be published within weeks.
Minister Murphy was responding to questions from Sinn Féin Housing Spokesperson, Eoin Ó Broin TD in the Oireachtas housing committee.
Senator Mac Lochlainn said:
“It is vital that a redress scheme is in place for the thousands of Donegal households affected by this nightmare. That scheme should involve an assessment of the damage and the repairs required in each household by a qualified engineer applying the protocol agreed by the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI).
Then the necessary refurbishment and rebuilding works need to go out to tender and be carried out by reputable building contractors. All of these costs must be born by the State as is the case with the Pyrite Redress Scheme for households in Dublin and North Leinster”.
“This is the fully funded scheme that we expect to be announced in the next few weeks.
That we have got to this very hopeful point is a tribute the campaigning families and households in the Mica Action Group”.
