No more excuses- Time for cabinet to sign off on Mica Redress Scheme- Senator Pádraig Mac Lochlainn
Donegal Sinn Féin Senator Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has called on the Government to finally sign off on a Mica Redress Scheme at the cabinet meeting this Tuesday.
He also stated that the scheme should be fully funded by the State as is the case with Pyrite Resolution Scheme.
Senator Mac Lochlainn said:
“There can be no more excuses. The cabinet must finally sign off on a redress scheme for the thousands of Donegal householders affected by the mica defective concrete blocks.
I have met with a huge number of people across North Donegal over the last number of weeks in advance of the local and European elections on May 24th. So many families are affected by these crumbling blocks and they have waited for far too long for a scheme to help them make their homes safe”.
“A clear message that I am also receiving from those local families is that they consider any suggestion by the Government of a percentage financial contribution as deeply unfair, considering that over 1000 families in Dublin and North Leinster have had their homes made safe under the Pyrite Resolution Scheme without being asked to make a financial contribution.
I have relentlessly raised this with the responsible Minister, Damien English and indeed, recently, with An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar in the Seanad. This Tuesday’s cabinet meeting must be the one that finally does the right and fair thing”.
